Got a Mission? The Juke Guy can help!

So after the “Donut Action” spot and the iAd, it’s clear: the Juke Guy and his Juke make even the uncoolest mission cooler. So we partnered with Funny or Die to take real people’s missions – “Do my homework.” “Babysit my kids.” “Teach me origami!” – and transform them from lame, everyday chores to the coolest, funniest, action adventure.

People had to “like” the Nissan Juke on Facebook, submit a mission to the “Mission Submission” application and then for a lucky few, the Juke Guy, his Juke and a Funny or Die film crew showed up at their door to complete their mission.

Submit your own Mission here.
And check out the first installment, “All Washed Up” here:

More Missions for Donuts!

Nissan Juke CYOA

So, blog readers, lali has been working on a lot of Juke and therefore you’ve been reading a lot about Juke. Seems like we can’t stop blogging about it. Guess that’s just how car launches go, and how our life as creatives go when we’re working on a car launch.

With yet another reason to go on a mission to get donuts, we turned our iAd into a YouTube choose your own adventure of sorts.

Here’s chapter 1: “ACCEPT”

Now, the adventure is fun and all. And it looks cool. And there’s some funny lines for those who read them – mothertrucker, meoww, employee of the month!.

But the funnest lines weren’t the ones we wrote, but the comments we got on the videos…

Such as:
“I’m a beast, and my dude became employee of the month in less than 5 mins. CAN’T BEAT THAT!!!”

OR

(after choosing to flirt with the hot girl instead of deliver the donuts)
“i lost and got a hot date
even when i fail I win
I AM AWESOME”

OR

the kind lali can give each other lali surround pats on the back for:
“Why can’t all ads be this fun?”
“wow using the youtube features to have a choose-your-own-adventure_ that pretty good marketing”
“This is probably the most fun thing Ive done all day.”

AND

the obligatory video smashing that always comes with YouTube posts:
“i’m so bored. i’m acually doing this lame ass shit… lol
anyone else here for that reason?? XD”
“that sucked balls…”
“cool… but Im still not gonna buy your car.”
“Dear Nissan, thank you for wasting 5 minutes of my life”

AND

some personal favorites of mine:
“It took me half an hour to do beat it”
“At least I didn’t have to watch any ads in the beginning”

So guys, waste five minutes of your life (or half an hour) doing the funnest thing you’ll do all day… and see if you can get employee of the month lmao hahahaha ftw XD awesome WOOO!! lol meowwwwwwww *jumps the table* dun dun duuuun duuuh i am the donut master ftw:) OMG

Oh, and if we could ask a favor… On search, the last video has the most comments and is therefore coming up first! So if you guys could comment/like the first one so it starts showing up FIRST in search, that would be AWESOME! And we will repay you in lalipops and smiles…

Our Juke iAd is TheFWA Mobile of the Day!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/lscribbly/5346257269/

Remember this? Well, blog readers, you may not, but we certainly do. Months of our lives. Countless wireframes and copydecks and PSDs and revisions and meetings and meetings about meetings and on and on.

Well, thankfully for this project, all that hard work paid off in a little bit of good press.

TheFWA’s Mobile of the Day! Woot woot! So now we can give ourselves a virtual pat on the back and get back to doing it all over again.

Oh! And the best PS to this post is that we also made it as Creativity’s Pick of the Day!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/lscribbly/5346291117/

In advertising, someone said you have to celebrate immediately, because everything can fall apart the next day. And if this past year is a testament to that, li and I should crack open one of those bottles of champagne we got from vendors for Christmas, and kind of immediately…

The best automotive ads of 2010 – brought to you by Nissan?

So the Detroit Bureau posted an article about the top twenty automotive ads of the past year. And the above blog post title was their subhead.

Here’s a quote:

“What was astonishing to me — and will be to most ad types in both agencies and client offices — was the dominance of one brand: Nissan. As you will see Nissan/Infiniti television commercials, which are created and produced by TBWA Chait-Day, of Los Angeles, took eight, yes 8, of the top 20 television commercials.”

So number one was a brand spot called “Wouldn’t It” (woot woot Michael and Shawna!) but number six on the list was from yours truly!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/lscribbly/5328387477/

It was our first spot with Chris and Margaret and our first big Nissan work. So you could say it started our journey working on Nissan. And this time last year we were in the middle of producing it!

So, check out the blog from back in April and our number 6 Ace Metrix scoring car commercial from last year!

Mission: Donuts… and oh! What a mission it was!

A man. A plan. Some donuts. (Our iAd.)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lscribbly/5202510748/

On August 11, I wrote a post about TBWA\Chiat\Day\Night. On that night, we ended up almost pulling an all-nighter. And by almost, I mean li left at 6a to go get ready for her wedding and I left at 6a, went home, took a shower, and came back to the office at 8a.

What came out of that night was a client presentation for the digital launch of the new Nissan Juke. And out of all that work, the one big thing that has consumed the past few months with blood-shot eyes, sweat (in our armpits, usually when presenting to Rob Schwartz) and tears (because yes, we’re girls) – oh, and carpal tunnel syndrome and degenerating eyesight for AD li – is our iAd. (What’s an iAd? Check here)

It’s the 27th iAd ever made. And the process showed that strain. More meetings than for any other project ever. More struggles and discussions and decisions than we thought possible. And since there aren’t any best practices yet, every step was a learning process. But a great one.

After 13 copydecks,
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lscribbly/5201850491/

27 versions of the userflow and wireframes,
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lscribbly/5201850373/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lscribbly/5202564856/

161 PSDs with hundreds of layers,
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lscribbly/5201853693/

and a little bit of broken glass.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lscribbly/5202485502/

The final product might not reflect all that work. What Steve Jobs refers to as the “superbowl ad of mobile ads,” is still, after all, a mobile ad (albeit hopefully a good one!). But what we learned through the process is probably far more valuable than the creative work that came out of it. Which is probably true for most advertising.

So without further rambling,

(Or maybe just a little bit more rambling,)

Here is what a creative director at Apple called “being able to taste the chocolate,” without actually eating any.

Or should we say more like tasting donuts.

The first-ever comic book iAd,

A choose-Kowalcyzk’s-adventure that you control,

We present –

Mission: Donuts

Watch it here,

Or look for it in your pocket.

xo to Chren, JDB, Glenndylan, Keith, Janet, Lisa and the rest of the team, without which we wouldn’t have donuts at all,

Huhh… You’re going to have another commercial!

Li and I have a new spot! If you watched college football at all, you saw a commercial where a dad finds out he’s having a baby. In dismay, he looks longingly at his 370Z that has no back seats. And in a slightly fantastical twist, he stretches his Z into a Maxima, the four-door sports car.

Well, in this follow up, we revisit the couple again, this time at the doctor’s office. And you’ll see what happens next… if the title doesn’t give it away!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/lscribbly/5199493372/

We shot this one again with Antoine Bardou-Jacquet, and if anyone has spent any set time with him, they know he’s a jokester. And if you haven’t, here’s a little peek at what he’s like. And in a little behind the scenes content, li and I fake auditioned for the role of doctor and husband, with Antoine in the pillow-belly-stuffed role of pregnant wife. Tehe! Minus li, who is actually quite a talented actress, there’s a reason we’re usually behind the camera and not in front of it.

Please. Just watch Antoine’s face.

And for those who don’t constantly read the blog (PS you should if you don’t and we may not forgive you nor give you lalipops!), see what Antoine’s pregnant belly ACTUALLY looks like here.

lali gets a youtube plug!

We are so honored to get a plug from Mr. Rob Schwartz in a youtube interview re: Nissan’s latest work! Check it out for yourself here, and feel free to scrub to 4:00 if you want to hear about how terrific we are :)

PS… Rob, we think you’re terrific, too!

If you didn’t see our post about “Kidzilla” — the spot Rob is referencing — check it out on youtube here.

La and I had a little project die today. In our world, you don’t always get your work produced. So when you finally have something running out there, it’s so great to see that people like it! For the record: over 60,000 views on youtube. Not bad for a little commercial about the quality of a four-door sedan!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/lscribbly/4943931775/in/set-72157624724999933/

It’s been a crazy few weeks. With the help of some cool people, La and I have been pioneering into new media frontiers (sorry, the details re top secret). We’re also helping to launch a brand new Nissan car in the digital space, and have two campaigns alive in two different pitches for two different brands. Fingers crossed!

xo and back to work!

lali on tv!! Nissan Kidzilla spot!

So I was sitting on the couch last night doing work on our next project, and I hear the strands of Elvis’ “Devil in Disguise” on the television. And lo and behold, I look up to see our commercial playing on TV! We thought the spot wasn’t going to air until next Thursday during a football game. My boyfriend Noah was really stoked because it meant I wouldn’t complain about watching the game… Sorry, Noah, but it looks like I may be complaining after all!
And to quote TBWA\Chiat\Day’s own Rob Schwartz:

“This is the culmination of nearly a year’s worth of plotting, inventing, presenting, persuading, testing, kvetching, re-inventing, re-presenting, cajoling, producing, praying, editing, re-editing, finishing and now, alas, broadcasting.”

So here is it, Kidzilla, from lali:

And for a behind the scenes look at all the hard work, check out our “Making of Kidzilla” gallery:

Cheers to work on television!
